Cambodia

Overview

Cambodia is bordered by Thailand to the west and northwest, Laos to the north, Vietnam to the east and south, and the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest. Its terrain consists of a central plain, low mountains, and the Mekong River, which flows through the country.

Cambodia has a rich history, with the Khmer Empire (9th to 15th centuries) being one of the most powerful empires in Southeast Asia, known for its impressive Angkor Wat temple complex. The country also experienced a tragic period under the Khmer Rouge regime (1975-1979), led by Pol Pot, during which an estimated 1.7 million people perished in a genocide.
