Overview

Japan is an archipelago consisting of 14,125 islands in East Asia, situated in the Pacific Ocean. The four main islands are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku, along with thousands of smaller islands.

Tokyo is the capital city and the largest metropolitan area in the world, with over 37 million people in its metropolitan area. It is the political, economic, and cultural center of Japan. Japan has a rich and ancient history, with the earliest known human settlements dating back over 30,000 years. The country’s culture has been shaped by Shintoism, Buddhism, and centuries of interactions with China and Korea.
